Lives Lived
(An excerpt from the Globe and Mail article of March 15, 2007,
by Wayne Walters)

Christina Hapon Walters - Teacher, Wife, Friend.
Born Sept. 9, 1950, in Oshawa, Ont.
Died Oct. 26, 2006, in Toronto of cancer, aged 56.

It was a party Chris would have loved. More than 200 people filled the venue known as Hugh's Room in Toronto on Jan. 14 to celebrate her life in a special way. Her husband Vern told the gathering that Chris's inner escape during her battle against cancer didn't include a Caribbean island or a European landscape.

"She conjured up a gathering of friends, food and wine, with music playing in the background and lots of laughter. Much like we hope to experience here today."

"Chris wanted a celebration."

Her wish came true. Memories were shared, stories swapped and a legacy enhanced through a trust fund started by Vern. It was boosted by Chris's eclectic collection of hats. Twenty-four of them were sold at a silent auction and the $2,300.00 raised was added to the Christina Walters Endowment For The Arts, which will benefit young students.
